Turns out having a social life in the evenings cuts into my recording time. Go figure. Any way, I’m determined to get back on track with today’s jazzy double header. Take it away, maestros…
Hello again, Mr. Porter.
This is one of those songs that definitely requires an underground club, a dimly twinkling gown, smoke hanging thick in the air, red lipstick-stained teeth, a stiff drink, and a single spotlight.
Yes, I know it’s supposed to be a pop-cultured-inspired celebration of gal-pals today… but darn it, I have received such sweet well wishes from a few of my guy friends that I had to give them a shout-out too.
Cheers to my Friends! I may not have your typical, run-of-the-mill Valentine, but you make me feel so loved each and every day ❤ ❤ ❤
How about a little more Cole Porter, eh? Something with a little bounce and cynicism? I swear, I do not have a love/hate flippy-floppy relationship* with happiness and love… composers do.
* Backing tracks, now, those I do love/hate. Thanks for listening!
Cole Porter is going to show up a lot on this blog. He’s just too much fun NOT to sing. Thankfully, he was quite prolific as a composer… and other things, of course… so I won’t be running out of his music for a while yet. Ta ta, darlings!
What? You thought I was going to write “love?” Chortle, chuckle, and haha. Sometimes I do… and sometimes I really just feel like crooning a sad tune.
Some days you just have to spend 12 hours at work, ya know? Hence, you get two songs today to make up for the fact that I did not post one yesterday… How about two sides of the same coin, eh?
Tails (oh, Cole Porter):
Heads (woe, Yetson and Kopit):
Sometimes I think people start a long term project, and then panic when they get a few days in to it. Oh my gosh and golly, it’s only been three days?! How am I ever going to keep this up for 362 more? This is where you just have to keep pushing along. A few years ago, I worked with a personal fitness trainer whose mantra was, “it doesn’t get easier, you get stronger.” Yeah, you think, but that means it’s still hard. True, but to quote millennial saint Lin-Manuel Miranda: “look at where you are, look at where you started…”
And just keep on keeping on.
